The HR Manager oversees a wide range of responsibilities, including employee relations, payroll, benefits coordination, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, record keeping, training and development, culture initiatives, and disciplinary processes. This role also supports leadership in creating a safe, productive, and positive work environment. The ideal candidate is an independent thinker with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously.
Experience & Education:
- 2 + years of human resources experience preferred
- Experience resolving employee relations or employment disputes
- Excellent interpersonal skills with good negotiation tactics
- Strong writing skills, attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, and HRIS Systems (Paylocity)
Planning & Organizing:
- Experience with workers’ compensation, unemployment, and teamwork
- Knowledge & experience in the lawn, landscape, and snow industry are a plus, but not a necessity.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting, Hiring, & Onboarding:
- Lead recruiting, retention, and succession planning
- Manage the full recruiting cycle, including job postings, interviews, offers, and onboarding
- Oversees new hire orientation and offboarding processes
- Set up and manage all applicant tracking software and other recruiting systems
- Attend job fairs, recruiting sessions, networking, and local events
- Develop relationships with schools and colleges (Help make the company a very desirable destination company!)
- Communicates all personnel changes, including hires, terms and transfers
Employee Relations & Culture:
- Provides support and guidance to the management team and employees regarding company policies and employment laws/regulations.
- Maintain employee engagement programs and company culture initiatives
- Creates a positive employee experience through internal communications, building relationships/trust with all employees and celebrating wins
Compliance, Policies & Record Keeping:
- Ensures accurate files and records, attendance, PTO hours, and benefits are maintained
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Oversees disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
- Maintaining HR metrics, turnover, retention, and recruiting pipeline
Payroll, Benefits & Compensation:
- Manage employee benefits programs, compensation, wage structure, and employee handbook
- Oversees time management and payroll processing
- Assist employees with benefit enrollment and questions
Training & Development:
- Collaborates with Admin and department managers to identify and draft detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria, career ladders, and safety training needs
